We all have the ability to connect to and harness the energy that surrounds us. Energy is everywhere - it is EVERYTHING. You cannot destroy energy; but you can change its shape and redirect it.
I was introduced to Reiki (Rey-kee) about ten years ago. I attended a group session to receive my first attunement. One of the first things we did was place our hands together, fingertips touching and hands cupped. We focused on feeling the pulse in our palms and then slowly began to separate our hands. You might want to try this now.
Allow yourself to disconnect from the keyboard for a minute. Close your eyes and breathe deeply through your nose, hold for the count of 3 and then slowly exhale through your mouth. Do this 3 times.
Next, place your fingertips together and cup your hands. Allow yourself time to connect to the energy that is pulsating through your fingers and palms. Now, slowly begin to separate your fingertips, keeping your palms cupped and feel the ball of energy expand. Is that cool or what?
Reiki is the act of laying hands on the human or animal body to comfort and relieve pain. We all possess this natural instinct. Think about it. What's the first thing you do when you smash your finger in a drawer or bang your knee on your desk? Was your answer, "I put my hand on it"? Now, some of you might stick your finger in your mouth, but isn't this the same effect? We're instinctively providing comfort to our pain through the use of energy.
When experiencing pain, the first thing most people do is to put their hands on it. Human touch conveys warmth, serenity and healing. Our bodies radiate warmth and energy. This energy is our life force.
Everyone has the ability to be a reiki healer. When I chose to become attuned to Reiki, I really didn't know why I wanted to do it; I just knew I did. As ideas are presented to you at Spiritual Peacemaker, you'll know which ones resonate with you. My goal is to help you reconnect with your intuition and to introduce philosophies and healing modalities that can provide you with inner peace and faith. Faith in your Higher Power, faith in yourself. Because in reality, you are your Higher Power. Reiki helps you connect with that aspect of yourself.
The person who is attuned to Reiki has their body's energy channels opened and cleared of obstructions. We carry alot of baggage around inside of us. Some of this is emotional, some spiritual and some physical. For instance, if you've had surgery, chances are the flow of energy in that area has been somewhat restricted. If you've suffered emotional turmoil, you may be carrying around feelings of inadequecy or guilt. Reiki can help open these channels and allow healing to begin.
Reiki attunements allow the individual to become a channel for the universal healing energy. From the time of the attunement, all the individual needs to do to connect with the healing energy is to place her hands upon herself or someone else and it will flow through her automatically.
This energy first heals the recipient and then also heals others without depleting the healer. The receiver of Reiki energy is given a gift that forever changes his/her life in every positive way.
Attunements are given one-on-one. The process of attunement is what sets Reiki apart from other forms of laying on of hands or touch healing. The attunement is not a healing session, it creates the healer. The attunements may be given in a beautiful ritual or done quickly and without any ceremony. They may be done in a group of other individuals, or can be provided distantly. Receiving an attunement is a magical experience and a life-long gift.
The Reiki Master begins by standing behind the receiver and draws the Reiki symbols. Each receiver will have their own unique experience. Some perceive colors, others see pictures, some are filled with light or a feeling of total peace. The sensations are as varied as the individuals. Soon after the attunement, the receiver is asked to place her hands on someone else and the new Reiki healer may experience for the first time the Reiki characteristic of heat radiating through her hands.
The person who has received the attunement is now a Reiki practitioner, with abilities s/he did not know were there. The attunement has not given the receiver anything new; it opens up and aligns what was already there.
Reiki is divided into three degrees. In Reiki I, the attunement heals physical dis-eases in the person who receives it. At this point, I must state that I am NOT making any medical claims or saying that someone can be healed through Reiki. That is up to the individual who receives reiki. They, and only they, can decide if they want to receive the healing energy reiki can provide.
It generally takes three to four weeks to adjust to the Reiki I attunement. Individuals have reported feeling spacey or tingly. Some experience intense dreams. Otheres experience detoxification symptoms including diarrhea, runny nose, slight aches and pains. This is simply a cleansing process and should not cause any alarm. What is happening is that the energy is adjusting and increasing the new healer's ability to channel it. If the process becomes uncomfortable, it is recommended to do a self-healing to rebalance the energy and decrease the sensations.
Reiki II adds considerably more power to healing sessions. It also provides the methods and tools for doing distant healings.
Reiki III is the Master/Teacher's degree. A Master is simply a teacher - one who has mastered the discipline. This degree is only recommended for the serious healer, and for those who wish to make Reiki a regular part of their lives.
Reiki energy heals on all of the body's levels - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Reiki energy heals the whole person.
