GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD
My girlfriend and I awoke on a Sunday morning, excited to hit the ski slopes after a hearty breakfast. As we went through our morning routines before leaving, I noticed something was wrong with one of my dogs.
I have two dogs, a male and a female and they currently cohabitate with my brother’s two dogs --- both females. Everyone gets along well and at this time, one of my brother’s dogs, a beautiful yellow lab named Lucy was in heat. And though my Shephard/Lab mix Thai had been neutered as a pup, he seemed quite aware of this fact and tried to engage Lucy several times over the past few days.
I consider consensual sex to be one of the more natural acts that occurs on this planet, and so none of this concerned me too much. That was until I saw Thai’s penis. It was red. It was huge. It was causing him pain. Looking at it caused me pain. I called my girlfriend in for a second opinion. And we were on the way to the emergency room for doggies.
I decided to lean on Kerri on this one. Could she please handle this for me? My energy was not good around this situation; I was stressed. As I waited in the truck, she came out with the good news. "Thai’s going to be fine", she said. "You just need to sign this estimate."
I had gone from a relaxing day on the slopes to an unexpected bill for $500-800. Still in shock, my girlfriend tried to comfort me, telling me it wasn’t so unreasonable. I told her I appreciated support while also requesting a moment just to feel sorry for myself. To be really pissed off. Just for a minute.
One overnight, a couple stitches, and $600 later, my dog’s penis was back inside his body (the vet said that a dog’s penis getting stuck outside its sheath was not uncommon. Who knew?). But I hadn’t fully recovered. This incident, coupled with various expenses I had incurred from moving cross country, had re-sown some fearful seeds within me around money.
The old feelings "Am I going to have enough"? "Am I going to lose what I have?" with a "Why is this happening to me?" for good measure.
Two days later, I was still feeling the stress of this incident. And thus I would attract more of the same. I was doing my best to relax, I was walking around the house, playing some guitar. Before I knew what was happening, the guitar strap inexplicably gave way, my beautiful Martin guitar free fell to the hardwood floor, landing with a resonating thud.
Splinters of wood flew. I swore. I swore loud. I swore repeatedly. The F-Bomb, as the kids say, echoed throughout the house.
Another $600 of damage from nowhere. Anger, resentment (this is not fair!), and more fear. Like Fonzie during a particularly tough stretch of his life (when he'd hit the jukebox and no music would come on), I had lost my cool.
Turns out my $400 digital camera was next. Toast. The camera went from working fine one day to shitting the bed the next. A day later, a $300 ski boot bit the dust.
Enough!
I finally got the message. Being fearful around money was not good. As is always the way, I was attracting exactly what I was putting out to the universe. The more I put out fearful energy around money, the more I was getting exactly what I feared. Money was no longer my friend. Money was causing me stress, causing me to worry. How to change this?
I decided that I needed to associate money with happiness again. Money has the power to make us feel good, but lately, all of my associations were negative. I was going to put the fear aside and spend money on something that would make me feel great.
I would throw "good" money after "bad."
I spent $1100 on new skis, boots, bindings, and a cool helmet, paid in cash, of course.* As soon as I snapped on those skis, I was a new man. The skis looked great. They made me feel great. They made me feel like I had money again. I could not stop smiling during my first run down the mountain as my new equipment revolutionized my skiing. Money was my friend again.
To confirm that I had made the right decision, when I got home that night there were two checks waiting for me totaling $250. I had expected neither. Within two weeks, I had attracted enough money to cover all my previous expenses with some left over for savings.
How you feel about money will determine how you experience money. Fear money, and the universe will give you more to fear. Associate feelings of love with money, and well, I’ll see you on the mountain. I’ll know you because you’re the one who’ll be smiling.

DANGER! DANGER! AVOID THESE WORDS!
Okay, so we’re clear on how critical the process of allowing is to the attraction process, right?
As I’ve said, attraction is an active, not a passive process, and you need to closely monitor your thoughts and feelings to ensure that your vibrations are in line with what you are asking for.
In my experience, there are at least two key words that have the power to cut off the attraction process off at the knees. The first word is "how." As in, yes, I want to bring all I want to me, but HOW will this ever happen? Again, because we are logical creatures we want to make sense of this whole attraction process we want attraction to fit into our current rules and modes of operation. Usually it does not. We want the reassurance of knowing how attraction works. While this is quite natural given our thought habits, you cannot allow skeptic thought to become your dominant vibration.
How will money arrive at my doorstep? How will I attract the love of my life? How will I find a career that brings me joy every day? Behind much of this is the belief that we must be doing something other than feel good in order to get what we want and the doubt that our feelings become things. Yet when we put forth that question of HOW, the underlying vibration that goes out to the universe is something like this:
"I don’t really think any of this will happen. I have very strong doubts about all of this. If you can explain it to me over again, perhaps I will doubt it a little less." Repeatedly asking HOW indicates that you still believe that you must do something beyond keeping your vibration positive. And that feeling of doubt will not make you a vibrational match for what you are asking for (unless you are asking for more doubt!).
The point is that in this active process of monitoring your thoughts and feelings, become aware of when that three-letter question pops into your head. Notice how your feelings change immediately from thoughts that feel good to thoughts that do not feel good. This is the point at which you must stop your current thinking and change your vibration.
The other word to become aware of is "but." Too many times I hear people say things like, "Drew, I really want to start living abundantly, but…" "Sure, I’d love to find a career that brought me joy and gave me lots of free time, but…" And again, with a three-letter word, the dream is ended. Whatever follows that little conjunction stops the allowing process. There’s the old saying that when you argue for your limitations, you get to keep them. Anytime we use the word "but" following the description of what we really want, we’ve just argued for our limitations. And we shall attract those very limitations to us.
Become aware of these two words – how and but – and those words like them that stop you from just feeling great about the fact that what you really want is on its way to you. Like any pattern of thought, this is just a habit and habit need time and practice to change. When these words come up in your mind, you’ll need to recognize them, stop yourself from going further down that path, and re-orient yourself on that which pleases you.

STARE AT THE LIGHT
I woke with a smile this morning. My bed was a cozy cocoon – silky sheets, soft pillows, the oh so comfortable comforter. And then there was Kerri’s warm body next to me, connected to another smiling face. We transitioned our conscious states gradually, awakened by the sunlight streaming through our window; there was no harsh alarm to jar us into the new day. Instead of rising, I lay there and just let my thoughts flow over how good everything felt and how much I appreciated everything in my life. And I grew excited to write this.
We all want to feel good. Deep inside, we know that when we feel good we attract more of that which makes us feel good. While this is such a simple formula, it’s surprising how difficult it can be to remain in a positive mood. In my conversations with folks, I’m convinced that maintaining a happy mood is the single biggest challenge we all face in attracting that which we desire.
Why is that?
I think the primary reason is that we have developed a bad habit of where we place our attention. We tend to let our minds focus on the things that we believe need fixing in our lives. If no problem is readily available, we often continue the search until we find what we are looking for. Our motivation underlying this habit is most likely well-intentioned –- we believe that by focusing on a problem we are somehow being "productive" and making our lives better.
Yet stop and think about this habit for a moment. Does focusing your energy on having to fix stuff feel good? No, it doesn't. Does the process ever end? No, there's just an endless stream of things that are problems that need to be fixed.
What this habit of thought does is keep your attention on what you do not have, rather than all that you do have. When we come from a feeling of lack, we create a greater feeling of lack. When we come from a place of abundance, we create a greater feeling of abundance. That's how it works.
The lynchpin in consistently feeling good is gratitude. Expressing gratitude leads you to attract more of that which make you feel grateful. What's more, expressing gratitude has the power to immediately derail a train of negative thought. Just try and feel grateful and bad at the same time, I dare you.
Here's the true power of gratitude...
When you can feel grateful for all the events in your life -- especially those that might not initially feel very good at all -- you will open yourself up to experience true abundance in every aspect of your life.
As one example, over the past few years, I’ve spent many hours thinking about the absence of my parents in my life. My habits of thought would not allow me to see anything good in this situation. When I'd see others in my age cohort with two vibrant parents with whom they could share their life experiences, I'd often fill up with feelings of resentment.
Why did I have to experience this pain and they did not? How was that fair?
I've allowed my thoughts to visit this place hundreds of times and not one good feeling has ever come from putting my attention there. Not a one. In fact, putting my attention in this very negative place was the trigger that would release an avalanche of negative feelings that would take me days to dig out from.
Old habits can be tough to break, but they are just that – habits – and they can be changed. More and more I am aware of those old thought patterns and can then shift my attention on how much I appreciate the time I shared with my parents.
And guess what happens when I do this? My whole body vibrates good feelings about all I have been given. There's no more heading into the dark abyss of one bad thought after another.
With all events in our lives, there is a gift in the situation. And with any gift, it's always up to each of us as to whether or not we decide to open that gift. We get to choose. Always.
Gradually (yes, this has taken time and tears), I’ve come to see that there is nothing "wrong" with this or any other life situation. Instead it's been my habits of where I place my attention that have caused the problem, not the events.
When I look for how I can feel grateful, I become aware of all of the benefits (yes, benefits!) of experiencing these losses. For instance, compared to most folks, I think this experience has made me rather fearless in many of my life choices. This absence of fear has allowed me to prosper and to live a life full of freedom. I feel so very grateful for all the freedom in my life, and in turn, the universe sends me more and more that supports my love of freedom. That's the circle (and power) of gratitude.
So whenever you become aware that your thought patterns are driving down the same old dead ends, hang a U-turn. Concentrate on all that you have. Be grateful that you have a bed to sleep in. Be grateful for the warm sun. Be grateful that your car starts. Be grateful for hot water in the shower. Be grateful for the garbage man who whisks away the trash. Be grateful for the music that brightens your day. Be grateful that every day takes you close to who you really are. Wake up and see the wonder that surrounds you.
Practice this habit of being thankful for all you have and two wonderful things will happen. First, you will be able to tackle any bad mood and you will feel better and better. Second, you're positive thoughts will work in tandem with the universe to create more and more for you to feel thankful about.
Stare at the light, and you'll not experience the dark.
