Although death is a part of life, I've found one can never fully prepare to lose someone they love. On Monday, I received news that my 12-year old chemo buddy, Sarah, had lost her battle to leukemia. It came as quite a shock and I found myself unable to comprehend the words "Sarah passed away quietly and peacefully at 2:02 am this morning."
I met Sarah through the Chemo Angels program last May. At just 12 years of age, she had been diagnosed with leukemia for the 3rd time and was preparing to undergo a bone marrow transplant in August.
Sarah and I have been working on a project called "Sarah's Gift". "Sarah's Gift" is a gift of comfort for children with cancer. It's packaged in a backpack and has a wolf and "Sarah's Gift" embroidered on the front pocket. The wolf is symbolic of family, loyalty and strength and was Sarah's favorite animal.
"Sarah's Gift" is filled to the brim with personal care and comfort items, games, toys, and craft items. There are numerous resources for the caregiver, as well as items to make their life a little easier. Sarah thought of everything when she helped create this gift.
It is the goal of Cancer Comfort to donate 30 kits to the children at Seattle Children's Hospital (where Sarah received her treatment). To date, we have raised 90% of the funds through private donations and corporate sponsors.
I invite you to take a further look at "Sarah's Gift" and if it feels like a project you would like to become involved with, consider making a donation today. No donation is too small and all are greatly appreciated.
Tell your family, friends and co-workers about "Sarah's Gift" and help us spread the word.
Together We Are Making A Difference
Many Blessings,
The Spiritual Peacemaker
