"Are you out of your freaking mind???" - asks Calton Bolick, a visitor to Spiritual Peacemaker.
Calton was referring to my Recommended Reading list, where I had included Marlo Morgan's books - "Mutant Message Down Under" and "Mutant Message From Forever". It never crossed my mind that these books would provoke such an emotional response. I truly enjoyed both books and have recommended them to others. As a matter of fact, one of my Aussie friends loaned me the book to begin with.
Calton also left a few links, which I took the time to investigate. The links lead to articles posted by Jon Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle and were very enlightning, so I embarked on a quest to learn more about the controversy behind these books.
The first site I landed on, after typing in "Marlo Morgan" at Google was Danny Yee. In his writing he states: "Her work is helping to both exploit and hold back Australian aborigines." Personally, I don't want to promote anything that exploits or holds back anyone, so I continued my search.
The next site I arrived at was Dumbartung Aboriginal Corporation. Here I found many more quotes of exploitation of the Aborigine people.
At Teaching Heritage I read a statement from the Aborigines Progressive Association supplied by Gisele Mesnage.
I have learnt a great deal about the suffering of the Aborigines. I feel the most eye-opening site I visited today was ENAIR.
My feelings about "Mutant Message Down Under" and "Mutant Message From Forever" have not changed in the sense that I most definitely did enjoy the books. However, I will no longer promote the sale of these books based on the information I uncovered today. Perhaps I would change my mind if Ms. Morgan were making a postive difference for the people she is writing about.
The internet is a wonderful tool for learning. I read a few books. I liked them and I shared them. Then someone presented another perspective and I took the time to see why this individual felt so passionate about his point of view. Because of that I became more informed. Perhaps you will be more informed today as well.

We forget to take the message that is being send to us and want to discuss meaningless issues. Opression means nothing compared to sicknesses where millions of people are dying, meaningless wars where thousand are dying, poverty.
Everything written is this book is true. Just look at what planet earth has become. I don't care whether all written has been experienced our not. We can at least take a step in the direction to take care that our future generations will have a place to live and change our behaviour towards eachother. That is the message.
